Minutes of the January 12, 2000, meeting of the Triangle Area Alumni
Association.

Present at the meeting: Kathy, Leigh, Joe, Sean, Kelly, Amy, Ron, Will,
Cindy.

NEXT MEETING:   WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2000
                EVA PERRY REGIONAL LIBRARY, APEX
THE MEETING WILL START AT 7:30PM
                For directions, please visit the
TAAA web site (see URL below).

We discussed ways to increase participation in the alumni association.

* WE NEED A CONSISTENT MEETING PLACE THAT WE CAN ADVERTISE.  Members
present agreed that the Eva Perry Regional Library fulfilled our needs -
quiet, centrally located, large enough to accommodate us, close to
restaurants, and free.  It was decided that we would try to make that
our consistent meeting place.  ("Try" because the room can only be
reserved one month in advance, and because town meetings take
precedence.)
Kathy & Kelly agreed to look into the cost of ads in the Technician and
the Daily Tarheel, respectively.

* A LARGE ANNUAL MEETING WOULD HELP GET THE WORD OUT.  We discussed
making the annual meeting a family event, to which we would invite all
alumni & active Brothers in the area.  The meeting would be an
opportunity to highlight what we have done, to inform the Brothers about
our meeting dates, and encourage them to get involved.  We tentatively
decided on the second weekend in September for this event, and agreed
that a picnic/potluck at a lake would be a pleasant & realistic format.

We also discussed DUES.  Dues are currently $25.  The question was
raised as to whether we should keep them at $25, or raise or lower
them.  It was decided that dues will remain at $25 to help pay for
recruiting members, as well as such events as the annual meeting.

The SERVICE project ideas proposed for this spring were:
* Gleaning potatoes - Ron will find out more
* Food bank - Leigh is the contact
* Easter egg hunt - Joe will contact Parks & Rec
* Helping out the Eva Perry library so they will like us & let us
continue to meet there - Kathy will follow up on this one

A SOCIAL event was proposed for February 5th - dinner (at Fat Daddy's on
Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh) and a movie.  We will meet at Fat Daddy's at
7 or 7:30.  Details will be forthcoming as the date approaches.

The SECTION 80 CONFERENCE will be held in Raleigh, the weekend of
February 18-20, 2000.  We will have an alumni reception at the
conference, most likely in the late afternoon before the banquet.  We
will discuss this at the next meeting.

The MEETING DATES for the spring are as follows:
February 9th
March 8th
April 12th
May 10th
June 14th
All meetings are on Wednesdays, at 7:30pm.  The tentative location for
all meetings is the Eva Perry Regional library.

Respectfully submitted,
Amy L. VanDeCar
TAAA Secretary
