SECTION 86 YAHOO! GROUP

On October 23rd, 2005, over 70 volunteers from APO Section 86 students and section staff gathered at Garden Harvest for a day of outside service to the community. Garden Harvest is a non-profit farm run strictly by volunteers in northern Baltimore County, Maryland. Their mission is to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition for the economically disadvantaged throughout the world. Volunteers teach organic farming and animal husbandry skills to the poor, so that they can grow their own food and cultivate their own land. All crops produced at Garden Harvest are donated to the poor.

APO Section 86 spent the afternoon at Garden Harvest preparing their tomato patch for the winter, by picking all remaining tomatoes and dismantling the vines in preparation for next spring’s growing season. It was messy but satisfying work, and the students and staff look forward to continuing a volunteer relationship with this wonderful organization. More information about Garden Harvest can be found at www.gardenharvest.org.

APO Section 86 was established on September 1st, 2005 and is made up of 5 chapters in the greater Baltimore, and western Maryland area. Chapters include Iota Gamma (Towson University), Kappa Mu (Johns Hopkins University), Alpha Gamma Chi (Frostburg State University), Alpha Delta Gamma (Loyola University), and Alpha Epsilon Lambda (McDaniel College).
