Section Council April 4, 2004 – Hosted by Lambda Nu, Duke University

Website:              * Everything is current; please give feedback on form that was sent out

·       You can update your chapter's information on the Region site, make sure you are current and we will send out a link to the site over the listserve

·       minutes will be posted on the website

            ** Moved: John moves to create a Section 80 message board on apoforums.com at $10 per year

            ** Discussion: This must get used, what budget would the money come from: Sectional Treasury, test a message board on a chapter or personal website to see if it would be popular enough, ECU offers to host the message board

**Vote on allocating money for Section 80 Web forum was tabled until next           Council meeting

 

 

Dates:  Barton – May 5th, Benefit Karaoke Night 7pm

             Iota Lambda – Initiation April 14th, 4am at Reynolds

             ECU – Initiation April 18th, 8pm Menden Hall

             Iota Lambda – Alumni weekend, April 23-25  lrhuffma@ncsu.edu if interested

             Barton – Initiation May 9th, 7pm at Hines

 

Bylaws:            * amended at last section conference (Article 7, awards, most improved chapter)

·       no longer LDWs, but LEADS

·       amendment was not presented to Section Chair 45 days prior to vote

·       amendment tabled until next legislative session in 2005

 

Treasury:            * $126.00 (includes some Sectional dues)

·       moving back to the November 15th due date because many dues not being paid at conference

·       $25 per chapter (Barton is exempt this year)

·       Paid:  NCSU, Duke, ECU, Barton exempt

 

 

Time and Place:  * Barton offers to host Section Council

                        ** Moved: Julian moves that Barton host the next Section Council meeting

                        ** Discussion:  none

                        **Approved:  unanimous

·       the weekends are better for the meeting, preferably Sundays

·       Sunday September 19, 2004 at 1pm Barton College

·       NCPC sometime during Fall (Oct/Nov)

 

 

Leadership Day:    * Several LEADS courses will be offered

·       Interested?  Yes :) good idea to not have at a conference

·       will have workshops at Nationals

·       $5 for lunch, otherwise free

·       Need better advertisement for participation

·       Sarah and Beth plan on advertising as soon as date is set, etc, including chapter visits

·       LEADS not just geared towards APO, but to professional life

·       could it be incorporated with Section Council meeting?

- might not have enough time

·       football might conflict?

- best date Oct. 16 for working around football; 9-5 all day workshops

Awards:            * $73.78 for chapter awards at Sectionals

            **Moved: Sravan moves to pay Andria back $73.78 for the chapter awards

            **Seconded: Laura seconds

            **Discussion:  Why wasn't the money allocated before?  Change in Section Chair, it was not budgeted so it needs a vote to approve it, Andria paid out of pocket and needs reimbursement

Leadership Day (Cont'd):            *ECU offers to host Oct. 16. 9-5

            **Moved: Essad moves to approve Leadership Day at ECU on Oct. 16th from 9-5pm

William:            * last summer for CPW – June 25-27, 7pm June 25-noon June 27

Sectionals:            * Duke hosting

·       Sravan is the Conference Chair

·       have draft budget ready

·       goal: only have to pay for food and housing

·       “The Wizard of APOz”

 

Conferences:             * last conference for the semester, April 16-18 at Appalachian State University – Tau Beta

·       “APO Olympics”

 

AAMDs, etc:             * convention year (Dec 27-30, Denver, Colorado)

·       each chapter needs 2 delegates

·       AAMDs, pledging forms + fees, charter reaffirmation = good standing

·       Nov 15, early registration is due ($65 students/advisors, $90 alumni, $85 life members), after Nov 15th ($85 students/advisors, $105 any alumni)

·       opening banquet $29, closing banquet $34

·       hotel = $69 per night

·       www.apoR3.org has 2 surveys (Toast Song and People for the Ethical Treatment of Actives)

 

Spring Service Day:              * April 16-18, coincides with National Youth Service Day

·       must report even if you don't participate

·       ECU: nothing as of yet

·       NCSU: Summer Picnic update to come, Summer Fraternity

·       UNC-W: nothing as of yet

·       Barton: nothing as of yet
